Beverly Hills Police Recruit Accidentally Shoots Self in Training

The recruit accidentally shot himself in the leg during a live-fire training exercise in Orange County.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA -- A Beverly Hills police recruit accidentally shot himself in the leg during a training exercise in Orange County on Monday, the Orange County Register reported.

The unnamed recruit was training with his sidearm during a live-fire drill at the Orange County Sheriff's Department gun range in Orange, according to the Register.

“The weapon accidentally discharged and sent a single round into his right leg,” Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Mark Stichter said. “Deputies at the range attended to him until paramedics from the Orange County Fire Authority arrived.”

The recruit was treated the UCI Medical Center and was expected to recover. No one else was injured in the accident.
