D'Angelo Italian Market Chosen as VIP Caterer for the NFL Super Bowl

D'Angelo Italian Market on Spring Street has been selected as an official caterer for the NFL Super Bowl VIP Tailgate Party at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford on Feb. 2, 2014.

The VIP Tailgate will take place prior to kick-off, and attended by NFL professionals coaches, families and other high profile guests.

Frank D'Angelo said he and his family, who also have a location in Jackson, are excited to participate.

"When we were informed that the 2014 Super Bowl was going to take place in our home-state we immediately sought an opportunity to be on board, representing the community of Princeton on a national level," he said.

Family members made repeated attempts to reach the NFL Host Committee in California. They persevered until they were able to schedule a sampling of their menu, which they did at an event at the Meadowlands in October, 2012.

That day, D'Angelo served a sampling that included, among other items, their
Sicilian specialty, Anelletti al Forno (Ring Pasta), with tagline "Go for the Ring," as well as football-shaped Arancine al Burro (Sicilian riceballs), Filet Mignon crostini and chicken parmigiana.

"My brother (Joseph) told us specifically not to get our hopes up, it's a long shot, they probably already know who will do it," said Danielle D'Angelo. "And then we were super excited when we got the news. We were shocked, because we weren't expecting it."

D'Angelo is one of five caterers chosen to feed the expected 2,500 VIP guests. Danielle D'Angelo said they not allowed to disclose the exact menu that's been chosen.

"We are honored to be a part of a globally-recognized sporting event," said Frank D'Angelo's wife Anna. "Our relatives in Italy are very proud!"

D'Angelo has catered large events before- including for Princeotn University Athletics, the FBI and the NYPD- but the Super Bowl party will be its highest-profile event to date, Danielle D'Angelo said.

And it's full of security, with D'Angelo only allowed to bring six people to the event, all of whom had to undergo background checks.

"We've received many requests saying 'If you need an extra hand, we're available," Danielle D'Angelo laughed. "But we don't actually get to the watch the game."

The VIP Party will begin at 2 p.m. Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m.
