Update: Bloomfield Passes Up Montclair Principal

Whether or not Montclair Schools will need to launch a search for a high school principal will be known Wednesday night, when the Bloomfield Board of Education is expected to appoint a new school superintendent.

Montclair High School Principal James Earle is one of two finalists for the Bloomfield school chief position. Earle is up against Bloomfield Middle School Principal Salvatore Goncalves, a district employee for 35 years.

The Bloomfield BOE will announce its decision in the Administration Building Conference Room at 7:30 p.m.

Asked what drew him to the district during a public meeting in September, Earle said he liked Bloomfield’s demographics.

“I look at Bloomfield and I say 'yes,' I can do this. It feels like a place I can work and support students.”

Earle came to Montclair in 2009 from Trenton Central High School, where he served as principal.
