Public Reminded of Prohibitions in Super Bowl 50 Special Event Zone

Those found to be in violation will face a $1,000 fine and any prohibited property will be confiscated.

With Super Bowl 50 less than a month away, San Jose city officials are reminding the public of a special event zone downtown where certain activities will be prohibited. Anyone found selling items such as food, merchandise, illegal goods, free items on public property or flying drones will face a $1,000 fine and the property will be confiscated.

The restrictions will be in place from 6 a.m. on Feb. 1 through 6 p.m. on Feb. 9. A number of “Super Community” events will be taking place during the nine-day period, including the Winter Market on Feb. 5 in the South First Area, also known as SoFA; the Downtown Ice skating rink at the Circle of Palms Plaza through Feb. 9; and the Super Guadalupe River Run on Feb. 7, city officials said.

Some notable places within the event zone include SAP Center, City Hall, San Jose State University and the San Jose Convention Center. The City Council adopted an ordinance Dec. 8 creating the zone, which is intended to create a safe environment, protect public health and allow residents and visitors to enjoy the Super Bowl, city officials said. More information on the special event zone can be found by calling (408) 793-4349 or visiting http://www.sanjoseca.gov/SB50.
