More than 20,000 professionals from the world of pharmacy return to Las Vegas, Nevada, this weekend for the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) 2022 Midyear Clinical Meeting & Exposition.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the last 2 years have been virtual; the organization previously met in Las Vegas in 2019 and 2016.
Running until Thursday, November 8, the meeting features dozens of topics spanning clinical topics and therapeutics, specialty pharmacy, biosimilars, emergency medicine, infectious diseases, technology, home care, and more.
In addition, many sessions zero in on topics that deal heavily with the day-to-day lives of pharmacists and others working in the current health care climate, such as:
Another track focuses on various topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Sessions encompass supporting those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer; patients who are disabled; communication strategies for more inclusive work environments; and the dangers of oversimplifying race in clinical practice.
During the meeting, Angela M. Hill, PharmD, CPh, RPh, professor and associate dean of clinical affairs; project director, WE-CARE, University of South Florida Taneja College of Pharmacy, will receive a joint leadership award from ASHP as well as the Association for Black Health-System Pharmacists for her work in addressing health equities.
Another award is being given to Marie A. Chisholm-Burns, PharmD, PhD, MPH, MBA, FCCP, FASHP, FAST, executive vice president and provost at Oregon Health and Science University. She will receive the ASHP Board of Directors’ Distinguished Leadership Award for her work in pharmacy practice leadership and academic pharmacy.
