The Lion Within You

If you want to change the visible, you must first change the invisible. This has been said in many ways by those far more eloquent than I.  From Martin Luther King, Jr. who said, “Everything that we see is a shadow cast by that which we do not see”  to Antoine de Saint-Exupery who penned, “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye”, the truth echoes from present to future.

In nature, this truth is expressed in the reality that what is under the ground creates what is above the ground. The roots create the fruits. What that means is that you become what you think about most.

So how’s that working for you?

In the book Learned Optimism by Dr. Martin Seligman, he explains that all of us have an “explanatory style” to account for our experiences. It’s the way that you habitually explain to yourself why things happen the way they do.  I daresay that in order to freely and courageously create a better future, we each need to “reframe” and talk to ourselves a bit differently.

I love what author Mark Batterson has to say about the way we handle our challenges; “Everyone’s path is littered with the debris of dysfunction and disappointment. We’ve all been misjudged or misled.  And we will be many more times before our lives are over. But God is in the business of using those experiences to prepare us for future opportunities.”

Incidentally, Mark wrote a great book called In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day. Crazy title with a powerful message. I was drawn to the book because Lions have been on my mind for months. And now Slingshot Success is launching the Lion’s Guild. I can’t think of a better way to refine and grow into the new year with boldness, joy and a strong sense of your destiny. Check it out…
