The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is about bringing the thrill of all-electric racing to as many people as we can, on city-center circuits around the world. But more than that, it is a showcase for how smart technology and solutions can help optimize, electrify and decarbonize in the global race for the energy transition.
As the championship advances from Mexico to London, we will highlight initiatives from ABB and its partners which will help them on their journey to a lower-carbon future across the power, industry, transport and building sectors.
ABB’s relationship with China dates back to 1907, when it delivered a steam boiler to the country. Fast forward to 2024 and there are approximately 15,000 ABB employees in China, across nearly 130 cities. China is ABB’s second-largest market, with 85% of sales generated from locally manufactured products, solutions, and services.
The country’s global influence drives economic and energy trends across the world. As the International Energy Agency (IEA) notes in its 2023 World Energy Outlook: “China has shaped trends across many parts of the energy sector in recent years.”
While China is the world’s largest producer and consumer of coal, and a major consumer of oil and gas, it is also the largest user in the world of many clean energy technologies. China is aiming to hit peak emissions before 2030 and reach carbon neutrality by 2060.
ABB is supporting many Chinese industries and businesses with their energy transition and on these pages we highlight some of the most notable projects and collaborations.
