Too often in debates about issues, such as child care, people assume that the interests of families and businesses are at odds and that lawmakers have to choose between policies that are good for families and policies that benefit businesses’ bottom lines.
The truth is that supporting families and strengthening businesses go hand-in-hand. Small businesses need strong families to access a talented, stable workforce. Families need strong small businesses for the economic opportunities they provide.

Letters to the editor are limited to 250 words and must be signed by the author. Submissions are limited to two per month by a single author.
Guest commentaries are longer pieces, up to 700 words, and must be signed by the author.
All submissions must meet the editorial standards of the Columbia Missourian and will be verified for accuracy.
