Two new additions announced to Wisconsin Rustic Roads Program

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) and Governor Tony Evers announced Monday two new additions to the Rustic Roads Program.

The program, which was created over 40 years ago, features scenic routes people can travel through in the state of Wisconsin.

“Since its inception in 1973, the Rustic Roads Program has encouraged folks to get outside and enjoy scenic routes in every corner of the state,” Gov. Evers said. “No matter where you go or what season you travel, Wisconsin’s rustic roads underscore the rich history of our state and highlight the vast and vibrant natural resources that we are working hard to preserve for future generations to enjoy.”

The two new additions are Rustic Roads 125 and 126. Officials say R-125 is 9.4 miles near the American Birkebeiner Trail in northwestern Wisconsin’s forests. R-126 crosses Honey Creek in Walworth County and passes an old schoolhouse, with its routes spanning approximately 760 miles in 61 counties.

According to officials, Rustic Roads range between two miles to 37 miles in length. They have a maximum speed limit of 45 miles per hour, with unique brown and yellow signs designating the roads and marking routes.
