STONY PLAIN, AB: Seasonal Road Bans will take effect in Stony Plain on March 31 until May 31 to protect local roads from damage caused by heavy vehicles during the spring thaw. The Town has implemented a 75 per cent axle load road ban on all residential and collector roads within Town boundaries.

“By implementing seasonal road bans, we’re aiming to prevent costly damage and ensure our roadways remain safe and accessible for all users,” says Mayor William Choy.

The following roads are exempt from the ban:

  • North Business Park
  • Golf Course Road (from Highway 16A to the south Town boundary)
  • Veterans Boulevard (south of Highway 16A to Highway 628)
  • Rosenthal Road (from Highway 16A to SH 628/79 Avenue)
  • 49 Avenue (between 50 Street and Golf Course Road)

Certain commercial vehicles transporting essential goods may carry up to 90 per cent of the maximum allowable weight during the ban period, including vehicles transporting:

  • Bread
  • Mail (as defined in the Canada Post Corporation Act)
  • Heating fuel
  • Fertilizer

The seasonal ban reduces the risk of costly road repairs and ensures road safety during the spring season.
