World Courier advances sustainable healthcare logistics with innovative Stuttgart facility
By World Courier

Innovation driving sustainability

From conception to completion, our Stuttgart facility was designed with climate neutrality as a core objective. The facility incorporates several innovative technologies that represent the future of sustainable logistics.
Our facility utilizes unified CO₂ systems that significantly reduce power consumption by controlling four distinct temperature zones with just two outdoor engines instead of the conventional eight. This innovative approach decreases energy requirements while maintaining precise temperature control for sensitive pharmaceutical products.
The facility's indoor cooling units draw power dynamically, allocating only what is necessary to maintain required temperatures in each controlled environment, minimizing energy waste while ensuring product integrity. Energy-efficient air-to-water heat pumps provide climate control throughout the facility, eliminating fossil fuel dependency while maintaining optimal conditions for pharmaceutical products.
Solar photovoltaic systems help power operations, reducing our carbon footprint while ensuring operational resilience. These innovations have earned the facility gold certification from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen (DGNB, German Sustainable Building Council) with an ‘excellent’ quality level 4 rating, establishing an internationally recognized benchmark for sustainable logistics operations.
Enhanced operational capabilities
Beyond environmental benefits, the Stuttgart facility introduces operational innovations that directly benefit our customers. Our purpose-built processing area features advanced conveyor systems for precise weighing, tracking, and preparation of shipments. This innovation enhances accuracy and efficiency while maintaining the highest standards of product handling.
Located in one of Germany's strongest economic regions, the facility offers exceptional connectivity to key European markets, enabling faster and more reliable service for time-critical shipments. The facility strengthens our ability to support contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs), contract research organizations (CROs), pharma companies, and emerging biotech ventures with specialized logistics solutions.
Customer impact: partnership for sustainable healthcare
"The new Stuttgart station provides the ideal infrastructure and strategic location to enhance our services for customers in the growing European specialty pharmaceuticals market," notes Sebastian Schänzle, Branch Manager Stuttgart at World Courier (Germany) GmbH.
