Hope on the Margins

Together in Renewal and Dignity

Every human being has the right to live with dignity and to develop integrally.
Pope Francis, Fratelli Tutti 107

JRS is still accompanying the most vulnerable among us.

While headlines shift and attention fades, the needs of forcibly displaced people do not. In countries scarred by conflict, economic collapse, and climate disasters, Jesuit Refugee Service remains—walking with those who have been cast aside, even as global support disappears.

JRS has always responded to need, not noise. From Syria to Ukraine, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to Sudan, our teams are still present in some of the world’s most neglected humanitarian crises. We remain not because it is easy—but because it is essential.

Today, that presence is under threat.

Recent and significant cuts in US government funding—paired with a global decline in humanitarian aid—have placed an enormous strain on our programs. Lifesaving services like education, shelter, psychosocial support, and emergency aid are in jeopardy. And yet, the need continues to rise.

We cannot leave – we are missioned by Pope Francis to stay.

Your gift today helps us stay where others cannot. It helps us accompany families through the unimaginable and remind them: you are not forgotten.

  • $50 can provide food and hygiene supplies for a displaced family

  • $100 can support psychosocial counseling for children affected by war

  • $250 can help convert a classroom into a shelter for families in crisis

Stand with us. Give today.

Syria

More than ten years of civil war and several environmental crises have left a deep impact on Syria. Despite the war having been suspended, over 6 million Syrians remain displaced, and the future of the country remains uncertain. Yet, JRS remains a steady presence in the country providing emergency assistance and critical healthcare services to this long-suffering population.

Venezuela

For over a decade, Venezuela has faced a profound humanitarian crisis, with political persecution emerging as a key driver of mass migration. This crisis has forced millions to flee, making Venezuela the second largest source of displaced persons globally. JRS remains committed to supporting those affected, focusing our efforts in the surrounding region to provide emergency assistance and foster livelihoods for displaced communities.

Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)

Currently facing a severe humanitarian crisis, the DRC is absorbed in violence, especially in the eastern regions, where armed groups are seizing territories and displacing millions. JRS remains in the region and continues to provide educational services and life-saving protection.

South Sudan & Chad

In April 2023, war erupted in Sudan. In just two years, millions have already been displaced with many fleeing into the bordering countries of South Sudan and Chad. JRS remains committed to the people of Sudan and serves those fleeing throughout the region. In this region, JRS provides emergency assistance and educational services.

Change lives with a gift to JRS today.

So many needs remain for highly vulnerable refugees worldwide – and your partnership is critical.

We ask you to help us serve Francis’ enduring legacy with a gift to JRS that helps us act where governments no longer choose to tread.

South Asia & Asia Pacific Regions

It has been over four years since the military coup in Myanmar which displaced 3.5 million people, one-third of whom are children. Accompanying the displaced, JRS remains a resolute voice for peace while also serving in displaced communities throughout the Asia Pacific region, including those in Bangladesh and Indonesia. The recent 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck central Myanmar on March 28 has further exacerbated the humanitarian crisis.
