A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) and the North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) will promote and support professional training and development of NWRHA’s staff.

According to a statement from UTT, the MoU seeks to facilitate independent and shared research opportunities and collaborations between both parties.

“This significant milestone will further enhance healthcare delivery not only locally, but throughout the region,” the university stated.

NWRHA CEO Anthony Blake said the initiative will bridge the competency gaps which exist in the Authority, and ensure that professionals are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to better deliver quality healthcare to their communities.

Through the agreement, UTT and NWRHA aim to enhance the content and delivery of UTT’s Health Sciences programmes by aligning efforts and resources, to empower future healthcare leaders.

Speaking on behalf of the University, UTT’s President, Professor Prakash Persad, mentioned the possibility of eventually expanding the scope of the MoU to work together to optimise various processes and procedures utilised by both institutions.

The University said it looks forward to a successful and transformative partnership, and commended the Authority for its “unwavering dedication to driving innovation to improve healthcare” in T&T and across the region.
