Advancing Rural Pharmacy Operations
UofM Patents-2-Products (P2P) fellow’s startup, PharmaHealthstream Solutions, is developing supportive solutions for pharmacies in the Delta Region
PharmaHealthstream Solutions, founded by Amani Johnson-Singh-Barnett, PharmD, MHA, MQM, and a Master of Artificial Intelligence (MAI), is tackling one
of rural Tennessee’s most pressing healthcare challenges: strained pharmacy operations.
Rural pharmacies serve as the heartbeat of their communities, providing essential
access to medications and care. However, ongoing staffing shortages and operational
inefficiencies have placed enormous burdens on these trusted community resources.
With rural pharmacies closing at an alarming rate across the country, PharmaHealthstream
Solutions is addressing operational challenges directly to help ensure that rural
communities continue to have access to the high-quality pharmacy services they rely
on every day. PharmaHealthstream Solutions’ mission is to empower rural pharmacies
through practical, accessible technology that strengthens operations and supports
long-term sustainability.
Recognizing the urgent need for practical solutions, PharmaHealthstream Solutions
is developing an advanced digital platform to streamline prescription processing and
daily pharmacy operations in rural settings. By leveraging cutting-edge technology,
the platform aims to reduce manual data entry, minimize medication errors, and free
up valuable pharmacist time, allowing pharmacy teams to focus more on delivering safe,
timely, and personalized care to their patients, such as administering immunizations
during busy flu seasons.
This innovation is being advanced with support from the Patents2Products (P2P) Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at the University of Memphis. Through the P2P
program, PharmaHealthstream Solutions has received hands-on mentorship, access to
academic resources, and the opportunity to validate its core concept through structured
discovery and research activities. The fellowship has enabled early progress toward
building a viable, community-centered digital health solution. It also offers a strong
foundation in entrepreneurship—providing critical training, technical guidance, and
connections to a regional innovation ecosystem that supports scalable, high-impact
ventures.
PharmaHealthstream Solutions is proudly based in Memphis, Tennessee, and continues
to advance its mission through research collaborations, federal funding initiatives,
and strong partnerships with rural pharmacies.
