Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council
Our Story
Thirty years ago...
Riverside Mills was a mess—full of dangerous rubble and completely blocking the community from safely reaching the Woonasquatucket River. But thanks to people like you, that broken-down space became Riverside Park—a vibrant, green, and welcoming place to play, gather, and connect with nature right in the heart of Providence. Every dollar you give makes a real impact, and we stretch every cent to keep transforming our river and the neighborhoods around it.
We’re all about making the Woonasquatucket River cleaner, greener, and more accessible for everyone.
Your support helps us build new trails, clean up pollution, restore habitats, and bring free, hands-on programs to local communities. The Woonasquatucket River is one of only 14 American Heritage Rivers in the country, and we’re making sure it stays a resource for generations to come—not just in Providence, but in all the towns that call the watershed home: Glocester, North Smithfield, Smithfield, North Providence, Johnston, and Providence.
Collaboration strengthens our impact.
This year, WRWC is proud to be part of a 401Gives support network—a group of like-minded organizations working together to uplift our community. We encourage you to explore and support our partners. During 401Gives, after you make a donation to support the WRWC, you’ll see a thank you message with links to the 401Gives pages of these partners. We recommend that you get to know them and consider donating to at least one after you donate to the WRWC. Each and every one of these partner organizations helps make the Woonasquatucket River and Greenway a place where ecosystems and people can thrive. Together, we can create a stronger, more resilient Rhode Island. Thank you for your support! 💙
Giving through 401Gives is quick, easy, and secure.
You can donate by credit card or directly from your bank. Not into online giving? No problem. Reach out to our Development Director, Jill Davidson, at jdavidson@wrwc.org to set up another way to give. However you donate, you’re investing in Rhode Island’s future. Thank you!
