Celebrating Holi at Calman College: A Joyful Festival of Colour
At Calman College, we believe in the power of celebration to bring people together, and this year’s Holi Festival was a shining example of that spirit. In March, our learners, the team, and community came together to mark this vibrant and meaningful Indian festival, specially adapted to create an inclusive, sensory-considerate experience for the young people.
Holi, known as the Festival of Colours, celebrates the arrival of spring and the triumph of good over adversity. In keeping with this spirit, our celebration focused on joy, creativity, and connection. The event featured a range of engaging, autism-friendly activities such as:
- Gentle Colour Play with natural, non-toxic powders and paint alternatives
- Sensory-Friendly Music & Movement, tailored to be calm, rhythmic, and welcoming
What made the day truly special was how each learner engaged in their own way, whether through painting, music, or simply enjoying the colours and community around them. The team worked closely with learners to ensure every activity was accessible and enjoyable, respecting individual needs while encouraging joyful participation.
Celebrating cultural diversity in a way that honours neurodiversity is part of what makes Calman College a unique and caring place to learn and grow.
Happy Holi from all of us!
