Agrifirm develops science-based regenerative agricultural practices to support farmers in the transition from conventional practices to regenerative agricultural practices. These practices focus on soil health, promoting biodiversity and mitigating the effects of climate change, while simultaneously reducing inputs. In doing so, we find answers to our environmental challenges for a more sustainable food system.
To make the transition to regenerative agriculture a success, we are gaining experience from our farmers' fields. Therefore, we work with pilot farmers to jointly develop our regenerative approach further. Tailor-made transition plans for each farmer are a key element in Agrifirm's approach, as is supporting daily decisions with practical advice.
In a nutshell, Agrifirm's approach consists of five key elements:
- a focus on improving soil health; the regenerative projects are valuable and proven tools to achieve this goal.
- tailored to a farm's respective needs (e.g. crop rotation, soil type, technical options).
- a step-by-step change, as the soil needs to adapt and thus farmers gain farm-specific knowledge and experience during the transition period to regenerative agriculture.
- a sustainable income for the farmer and value creation throughout the food chain are essential elements to support this change and further develop the concept. A process that should involve all other players in the food chain.
- Agrifirm supports farmers in the transition process with advice, products and services and works together with chain partners to develop the market for food grown using regenerative practices.
