  • This is an opportunity for all #yorkshire and the #humber academics to get involved with Futures Lab: What is it? Futures Lab is a strategic innovation framework designed to tackle Defence challenges by harnessing the collective expertise of industry and academia. Operating on a task-based model, we focus on the early-stage development of future technologies, where academic research and innovation play a critical role. We’re hosting a one-hour briefing tailored for academic institutions and research partners interested in contributing to Defence initiatives across air, land, maritime, and strategic command domains. The session will outline the Futures Lab approach, showcase sample projects, and - most importantly - explain how partners can get involved and collaborate on high-impact tasks. When is it? 12/06/25 from 10:00-11:00. Where is it? The event will be held online and you can register by exploring the links in the post below:

The Defence BattleLab will shortly be opening up its co-collaboration virtual area. Supported through the UK Ministry of Defence, Defence Innovation Unit. Think of it as a Virtual BattleLab where Military, Academia and Industry innovators can have a low barrier to entry space to share ideas and capabilities, getting to understand what each can offer and act as a hub for information. Some of the improvements we see the Virtual space offering. - Better communication between the BattleLab Defence team and BattleLab Collaborators through regular updates outside of the monthly newsletter. - Military Personnel can engage directly with civilian ideas. - Civilian innovators can provide their concepts, and they can be provided potential pathways for exploitation or further experimentation. - Civilian Innovators can network and collaborate in a space that allows for the building of trust, which will lead from the virtual space to the physical BattleLab on Dorset Innovation Park. - Simple access to the full Defence BattleLab Innovation Ecosystem. The Space is currently undergoing Beta testing as we put the finishing touches on and we look forward to linking up the BattleLab website and newsletter with an access link very shortly. We hope you are as excited as we are!! #BattleLab #Defence #Innovation #Technology #DorsetInnovationPark #VirtualBattleLab #DorsetCouncil #DIU #wazooko #MinistryOfDefence #DefenceIdeas

  • Thanks to Rob O'Connor and Alistair Brown for inviting me to the Angloco Limited end-of-project demo event in the beautiful countryside surroundings of Leeds East Airport (some of you may know it better as former RAF Church Fenton), which they then proceeded to set on fire. The progress made is very impressive, see Rob's post below to see the fire-fighting HAWC in action. It has been a team effort with special mention to my Defence and Security Accelerator colleagues Davey S (MSc MSyI), Lily Elkins, Emma D and Rob M.

🔥🔥 Project Hephaestus: DCE is proud to have delivered a ground-breaking demonstration for the Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA), showcasing an advanced robotic and autonomous wildfire-fighting capability – keeping people out of harm’s way. In collaboration with HIPPO Multipower and Angloco Limited, we integrated our Marionette™ universal control system onto the rugged HIPPO 6x6 platform – transforming it into a highly capable system for remote and hazardous operations. Key features include: 🚜 A heavy-duty flail for clearing brush and creating fire breaks. 👀 A full suite of cameras for teleoperation and situational awareness. 💦 Angloco’s pump and tank unit with high-pressure jet and misting system. 🛡️ Spray nozzles for underbody and wheel protection. This powerful solution, all controlled by Marionette™, is built to access difficult terrain, operate autonomously or remotely, and directly support firefighting efforts where it’s too dangerous for people. We’re thrilled with the outcome of this project, culminating in a highly successful live demonstration. A huge thanks to our project partners and the team at DASA for making Project Hephaestus a reality. 👉 To learn more: 📧 info@dconcepts.co.uk 🌐 www.dconcepts.co.uk
