Thermal Energy Engineer II
Responsibilities
OPPD is looking to add an Engineer II to its Thermal Energy Resources team. The Thermal Energy Engineer II is responsible for assist in the analysis, coordination, and recommendation of new and modifications to OPPD thermal energy resources. The responsibilities include assisting in the development of strategies and collaboration in origination efforts for thermal energy resources including technical evaluations and participate in the coordination of funding, rate impacts and communication for these efforts which are vitally important. The position will also engage in coordinating the inclusion of these resources into the business plans of business units associated with execution and operations. The position will engage at the national, state, and local levels creating strong relationships with our customer owners, community groups, state and local government officials and Nebraska utilities.

- Under technical direction perform engineering analysis and evaluation of technical generation and balance of plant specifications (mechanical/electrical)
- Applies broad knowledge of principles and practices in the area of power generation facilities.
- Independently evaluates, selects, and adapts standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Acquires general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields, and ability to function on multidisciplinary teams.
- Works on multiple projects ranging in size with substantial portions of major projects.
- Perform analysis or diagnostic evaluations and adapting and applying broad engineering principles and practices based on education and experience within own engineering discipline.
- Apply basic project management principals to support the execution of large, complex, or time sensitive work.
- Develop and lead complex troubleshooting of emergent plant problems whose resolution exceeds the skill of the Maintenance and Operations staff using broad techniques and engineering principals.
- Accountable for cursory understanding of all applicable governmental, Code, Industry standards, and environmental regulations.
- Accountable for the detailed understanding of internal procedures, policies, and reliability standards.
Required:
- Four (4) year Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree (ABET-accredited degree)
- Two (2) years of equivalent engineering work experience. Special projects and committees including technical skills may be considered for experience durations. Master's degree may be considered for up to two years of experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the utility industry and power generation
- Knowledgeable in the various regulations and codes, which apply to the specific engineering discipline.
- Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills with the ability to adapt the communication for a varying audiences
- A valid driver's license
- Familiarity and experience with Ventyx (Asset Suite), Cognos, AutoDesk (CAD, Inventor, Vault), PeopleSoft
- Engineer in Training (EIT/FE), PE License or other relevant industry-level education / certification
- Master's degree in Engineering or Business.
- Degree in engineering discipline related to power generation
- Demonstrated capabilities of researching engineering solutions, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and presenting recommendations.
- Advanced MS Office Professional Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Electric utility power plant operation and maintenance exposure.
- Understanding of codes and regulations applicable to power generation facilities
- Thorough knowledge of OPPD¿s T&D, Substation and Generation system.
