Broxbourne Borough Council Invites Applications for Opportunity for Excellence Scheme

Broxbourne Borough Council is committed to supporting talented sports individuals as they progress in their chosen sport.

The Opportunity for Excellence scheme offers gifted sports people the chance to be rewarded with a year’s membership to a local leisure centre to help towards their training and conditioning needs.

Individuals are eligible for the programme if they are of a county standard or above in a recognised sport, reside within the Borough of Broxbourne and are aged 11 years and over. Recent recipients of this award include Grace Pearce, a 20-year old footballer from Hoddesdon who represents Tottenham Hotspurs Women FC, and Owen Lambert, 17-year-old Judokwai fighter from Hoddesdon who is a European and British Champion.

Councillor Dee Hart, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Health said: “There is a wealth of talent out there and Broxbourne Borough Council is committed to supporting our sports stars of the future through funding access to the fantastic facilities on offer in Broxbourne.”

“I would urge our local athletes to apply for the same funding that supported GB triathlete star, Lucy Charles-Barclay, to one of her finest moments of her sporting career, not only winning, but setting a course record at the World Ironman Championships in Kona, Hawaii, this year.”

The deadline for the next round of Opportunity for Excellence applicants is 31 March 2024.  For more information, or to complete an online application form, please visit www.broxbourne.gov.uk/OFE or contact Broxbourne Council's Community Development Team at community@broxbourne.gov.uk.
