SYDNEY CATHOLIC SCHOOLS PRIMARY CROSS COUNTRY 2024

More than 2,000 primary students will converge on Sydney Motorsport Park (SMP) on Tuesday 14th May 2024

The Sydney Catholic Schools Cross Country Championship held on Tuesday 14 May 2024 (Term 2, Week 3)

SESSIONS

  • The event is divided into two session namely a Morning Session (AM) and an Afternoon Session (PM)
  • The Session allocation is based on the geographical location of each conference: 
    • Morning session (AM) includes Conference 2 & 4
    • Afternoon session (PM) includes Conference 1 & 3

AM SESSION

  • Sydney Motorsport Park venue opens up for students, parents and spectators for the AM session at 7.30am
  • Opening Ceremony – 8.40am

PM SESSION

  • Sydney Motorsport Park venue opens for students, parents and spectators for the PM session at 11.15am
  • Do not enter the venue before 11.15am for the PM session
  • Opening Ceremony – 11.55am

Maps of the 2km and 3km course, pertaining to the conditions on the day, are available below. There is no physical walk of the course. Students are encouraged to get to know the course by means of virtual guides (videos) .

  • Events will be held in the sequence indicated in the program however, the Convener may vary this if necessary. 
  • Two (2) marshalling calls will be announced for each event. Individual competitors will not be called. Competitors not present at the Marshalling Area at the correct time may be disqualified.
  • Schools arriving for the PM Session may not enter the grandstands until instructed to do so by SCS Sport.
  • A PM Session holding area has been allocated for schools to wait in, if they arrive early and do not remain on the bus. This area is marked by 1C on the venue map.
  • Schools must stay within designated areas (for student safety) and dismissal of AM session management.
  • Age categories are based on the age the child turns this year. 
  • Each school may send up to 4 students per event.
    • 8/9 (Born in 2015 or 2016) – 2000m = 4 boys and 4 girls
    • 10 (Born in 2014) – 2000m = 4 boys and 4 girls
    • 11 (Born in 2013) – 3000m = 4 boys and 4 girls
    • 12/13 (Born in 2012 or 2011) = 4 boys and 4 girls
    • Multi Class Events – 2000m
  • 8 / 9 years events are a combined age event and will be judged together as one age group
  • 12 /13 years are a combined age event and will be judged together as one age group
  • A competitor may not compete out of his/her age group.
  • This event will be live-streamed.

  • Students wear their school sports uniform and must have appropriate footwear and hats. 
  • Shoes must be worn by all competitors. 
  • Spiked Footwear is not permitted due to safety reasons related to a pack start.
  • All students are required to compete with an electronic running bib
  • Students are allocated a unique number 
  • The bib has an electronic chip which identifies students as they cross the finish line
  • The bib can be kept as a memento after the event
  • Student warm up before the start of each event is recommended.
  • A designated warm up area has been allocated for schools to use.    
  • Awards:
    • Medals will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place-getters in each event. 
    • Participation certificates can be downloaded from the SCS Sports website and distributed to students at the school’s discretion.  
  • Progressions
    • AM session
      • The top 4 runners from Conference 2 and Conference 4 (total of 8 runners) represent Sydney Catholic Schools at the MacKillop Cross Country Championship as team A (‘A’ for AM)
    • PM session
      • The top 4 runners from Conference 1 and Conference 3 (total of 8) represent Sydney Catholic Schools at the MacKillop Cross Country Championship as team P (‘P’ for PM).
    • Selections – Overall 
      • The final 8 selections are based on:
        • SCS Sport team considering any special circumstances. and/or 
        • Overall timings
        • The final 8 selections represent Sydney Catholic Schools at the MacKillop Cross Country Championship as Team O (‘O’ for Overall). 
  • Multi Class selections
    • Athletes in Multi Class events are based on criteria set by MacKillop e.g. 3 athletes per event
  • Food Truck and Outlets will be open and available to purchase food and drinks from

There are designated parking areas. Any vehicle not parked legally will be towed away at the owner’s expense.

  • Parents/carers/guardians/teachers 
    • Designated parking area located on the grass hill – Refer to venue parking map – Parking areas 3A and 3B.
    • Security parking attendants will direct parents/carers/guardians where to park. 
  • Bus parking  
    • Designated area is on the skid pan.
    • This will assist students disembarking with other buses parking beside them.
  • Mobility Parking Scheme (Mps) Permit Holders
    • Mobility Parking Scheme (MPS) permit holders can use the Gate 1 access to be closer to the grandstand (Northern Side of track). 
    • Upon arrival to Gate 1, press the intercom and security will ask for validation of the MPS permit holder.
  • Turning left onto Ferrers Road is recommended to mitigate traffic congestion.
  • Buses and spectators are recommended to use The Horsley Drive entrance to M7 motorway to head North or South.
  • Signage will be posted on the exit of Sydney Motorsport Park at Gate A for the PM session to advise buses and spectators to turn left onto Ferrers Road to assist with traffic flow.
  • All students are required to complete with an electronic running bib.
  • No pushing, tripping or interference with other competitors is allowed.
  • Parents and spectators are not allowed within the running track boundary.
  • Schools may not make any substitutions on the day.
  • Starting commands shall be: “On Your Marks” followed by firing of a gun. A second firing shall indicate recall.
  • During the race, competitors racing are the only individuals to be on the course. Parents and spectators are not to be on the course.
