Marlins Back in the NCAA Tournament

The Virginia Wesleyan University men's basketball team has been selected to participate in the NCAA DIII National Championship Tournament.

VWU will head to Hartford, Conn. to face Swarthmore on March 1, with tip-off set for 4:00 PM. The host Trinity College (CT) will battle Utica on Friday for a 6:30 PM game. The winners of each game will play on Saturday, March 2, for a 6:30 PM game time. 

The Marlins posted a 19-8 record this season with wins over Nationally Ranked opponents Randolph-Macon, Christopher Newport University, Shenandoah, and Guilford twice.

The Marlins' leading scorer is Khai Seargeant a sophomore guard who averages 11.7 points per game, shooting 40.2 percent from the field, 32.4 percent from beyond the arc, 2.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 0.81 steals per game, Jordan Crump averages 9.5 points, shooting 35.0 percent from the field, and leads the team with 41 threes made on the year, grabs 3.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 0.81 steals, and Waylo Wilson the Marlins center averages 9.0 points per game, shooting 55.8 percent from the field, lead the team in rebounds averaging 5.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.8 steals, and lead the team in blocks averaging 1.5 blocks per game. 

VWU has the fourth-best defense in the ODAC and the eighth-best defense in the country, holding teams to 59.2 points per game through 27 games.

Virginia Wesleyan Basketball's storied history will be their 16th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Having won in the 2006 season and runners-up in the 2007 season. Dave Macedo and the Marlins have ended an eight-year drought, as the last time they made it to the NCAA Tournament was in 2015.
