Our Story

Makin’ It Happen is on a mission! . . . to create a coordinated response among individuals, organizations, businesses and communities to promote behaviors that measurably improve the overall health and well-being of our youth, families and communities with a focus on alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention and mental wellness.

Building Recovery Ready Communities

Makin’ It Happen (MIH) is working to build Recovery Ready Communities in the Greater Manchester region. We are engaging our communities in discussions about the struggles different addictions pose, educating people and organizations on what recovery may look like, and empowering individuals in recovery to share their stories. Recovery is about more than just drugs and alcohol – it can also mean recovering from homelessness, an eating disorder, and dating violence as well as unhealthy behavioral addictions like gambling, shopping, and internet habits.

Resiliency Essentials Helping to Keep You Healthy

Resiliency is the ability to recover quickly during stressful times, and essentials are activities that are so important you need to do them on a regular basis. Makin’ It Happen (MIH) works with our partners in the greater Manchester region to promote resiliency essential initiatives and provide trainings focused on prevention and mental health wellness.

Whether you choose from one of our training curriculums, or we develop a customized, evidence-based, research-informed training to serve your needs, you can join us in achieving our goal: to ensure that no matter where a youth may go in the Greater Manchester region, caring adults have the skills necessary to assist in a mental health or substance use crisis, ultimately building resilient communities.

MIH is pleased to offer several trainings and presentations to our regional community organizations, including Mental Health First Aid; Question, Persuade, & Refer (QPR); SOS: Signs of Suicide, Talk Saves Lives: An Introduction to Suicide Prevention, The Mandt System, and more!

Engage, Educate, and Empower to Build Resilient Communities

At Makin’ It Happen, we engage, educate, and empower individuals, youth, and families within the region to live healthy lives and build resilient communities. We do this through collaborationcommunicationpartnershipsconnectionsfacilitation, and leadership.

We support a youth-led, adult-supported model for our projects and initiatives with young people. We lead by example and continually work to identify and support collaboration among partners. Young individuals have participated in youth leadership trainings, took part in the Zero Left Challenge distributing Deterra Bags – a safe way to dispose of medications that are no longer necessary – to their communities, and coordinated and engaged in mental health and leadership summits.

What They’re Saying:

“I think that prevention and making a space for community collaboration are crucial if we are going to see better outcomes for our community when it comes to SUD and mental health issues. I am grateful to work closely with Makin’ it Happen as they strive to make an inclusive and inviting space for this crucial work to be done in Manchester and the surrounding communities. My hope for the future is that we continue to see further drops in overdoses and overdose fatalities due to our communities’ combined efforts.”

Andrew Warner
Director of Overdose Prevention, City of Manchester Health Department

“The Manchester Youth Wellness and Prevention Collaborative is one of my favorite meetings every month! Makin’ It Happen has done a tremendous job of planning, organizing, and executing the meetings to make the content and experience so worthwhile.”
