Construction has started on the future H-E-B Mid Cities grocery store, located at the northwest corner of Cheek-Sparger Road and Rio Grande Boulevard (the road into the Glade Parks development).
H-E-B Mid Cities, which is located in both Bedford and Euless, will be approximately 126,000 square feet and feature an H-E-B Fuel station, car wash, pharmacy drive-thru, expanded grocery pick-up area, and True Texas BBQ within the store (with a dedicated drive-thru). The store will also include H-E-B’s signature tortillas, freshly made sushi, full-service bakery, and more.
With a projected opening date in mid-2026, we’ll provide more updates as construction moves forward.

The Bedford Senior Activity Center is officially open, and we’re celebrating! Join us for a Ribbon Cutting ceremony and open house at the Senior Activity Center (3524 Central Dr.) on Saturday, February 8 from 10 a.m. to noon.
We’ll have a short ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m., followed with cake, refreshments, and tours of the facility from 10:30 to noon. All members of the community are welcome to attend.
Let's talk trash! We wanted to pass along a few reminders regarding trash and recycling services in Bedford.
- Make sure your trash and recycling are at the curb by 7 a.m. on your scheduled pick-up days.
- Republic Services’ collection hours are between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. This means, your trash pick-up is not considered “missed” for the day until after 7 p.m. If your trash hasn’t been picked up after 7 p.m., please email the City at recycling@bedfordtx.gov. Our staff will contact Republic Services and let them know about the missed collection. Please continue to leave your missed collections out by the curb for Republic to come back and collect.
- If your recycling bin is full, extra cardboard (that is meant for recycling) should be flattened and placed underneath the bin. Remember, wet cardboard is not recyclable.
-
Bulk Pick-Up: Bulk items must be no larger than 3' x 3' x 12'. Acceptable items include, but are not limited to, yard waste, appliances, furniture, and other household items. Appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners that contain Freon, PCB, or other liquid or gaseous compounds must have that product removed by a certified technician who places a special tag on the item prior to collection. Otherwise, Republic will not collect it.
-
Hazardous and electronic waste are not collected with regular bulk trash. This includes items like paint, chemicals, florescent bulbs, and tires. These can be disposed at various City events throughout the year, including Crud Cruiser and Chunk Your Junk (both returning this spring). Need to dispose of it now? Visit bedfordtx.gov/hhw.
-
Bagged Leaves: When the leaves begin to fall each year, they typically do so in mass amounts! Republic has let us know they will prioritize trash/recycling collections over picking up bagged leaves. This means, if you are placing out multiple bags of leaves, not all of them may be picked up in one collection and trucks will have to come back at a different time to finish collections. Please continue to leave them out by the curb for Republic to collect, when truck space allows.
-
Brush Pick-up: Brush must be cut in lengths not to exceed four-feet, bundled and tied, weighing no more than 50 pounds per bundle. You may place up to four cubic yards of brush or bulk at the curb per week. Republic will treat bundled brush the same as bagged leaves – it may be on the curb for a little longer depending upon truck space!
- When not in use, make sure your containers are either located behind fences, walls, shrubbery, etc. and out of public view.
- If you typically have your garbage picked up around a certain time every week, but notice some days it’s being picked up later, that’s okay! There are a few reasons why your trash pick-ups occur at different times including larger than usual trash set-outs (especially during the holidays or inclement weather make-up days when the trucks need to dump at the landfill more frequently), routes running in a different order, employee shortages, or a new driver is learning a route.
If you ever forget which day your collection schedule is or need more info about trash/recycling services, go to www.bedfordtx.gov/trash.
Bedford and other cities around the DFW metroplex are home to several types of wildlife, including coyotes. While coyotes have been in our area for decades, we’ve been receiving increased reports of sightings throughout the community. Coyote mating season is January through March, and pups typically arrive April through mid-May. The following precautions can help people and coyotes safely co-exist:
- Never intentionally feed wildlife.
- Don’t feed wildlife accidentally. Coyotes are opportunistic omnivores and will readily exploit any potential source of food. Because coyotes frequently eat rodents, anything that attracts rodents can also attract coyotes. Keep pet food and water inside. Keep garbage securely stored, especially if it is put on the curb for collection. To keep pets safe, it is imperative that pet-owners do not allow their pets to roam freely.
- Walk pets on a leash and accompany them outside, especially at night.
- Do not panic if you see a coyote. A sighting of a coyote acting appropriately and non-aggressively does not require a response.
- If a coyote frequents an area, show them that they are not welcome. “Hazing” a coyote, or showing it signs of aggression each time it is seen, will usually discourage its presence and helps to re-establish its fear of humans. Use noise making and other scaring devices when coyotes are seen. Portable air horns, vehicle horns, and whistles can be effective. You can also throw an object, such as a tennis ball, near the animal without the intent to injure it.
- These methods have proven successful in residential areas where coyotes become too comfortable around humans. In addition, Bedford Animal Services works closely with a Texas Parks and Wildlife biologist, who is informed of coyote sightings in Bedford.
- Anyone who has information regarding individuals feeding wildlife, please call 817-952-2191. A citation may be issued to anyone in violation of the City’s wildlife feeding ordinance, which strictly prohibits the feeding of wildlife to protect residents and their pets.

Over the next couple of weeks, you may see folks enter your property to work on your water meter. Texas Meter and Device employees (who can be identified wearing yellow reflector vests with “TMD” on the back and TMD-logoed vehicles) will be replacing some water meters throughout the City.
The meters are being replaced because the displays are not working and the meter is not sending the water consumption data to Utility Billing.
Please note, the replacements should not cause any major disruptions to service. If there is a disruption, it would only be between 5-10 minutes to replace the meter. This work will take around 90 days to complete and crews will be in the area Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Do you have a general question related to code enforcement, economic development, trash/recycling, parks, etc.? Ask us! Each month, we’ll feature at least one question from “Bedford Buzz” subscribers from the previous issue. Submit your questions at www.bedfordtx.gov/questions.
We did not receive a question from readers this month, so here's a common question we receive:
QUESTION: Are plastic grocery bags recyclable?
ANSWER: Plastic bags do NOT belong in your recycling bin. The thin material clogs Republic Services’ recycling machinery, halting the recycling process and potentially damaging equipment.
Instead, reuse plastic bags (they make great trash can liners and for scooping up animal waste) or bring them to a grocery or department store that offers plastic bag disposal. To find a drop-off location near you, visit https://bagandfilmrecycling.org/.
Don't forget, the sticker on top of your recycling bin is most likely incorrect. The global recycling market is constantly changing and has been updated quite a bit since those stickers were placed on your container. With the constant changes, it’s best to check the City’s recycling webpage for current information.
You can also always send the City a message on Facebook (or through any of our other social media channels) and ask if a certain item is able to be recycled or not. If staff doesn't know the answer, we can reach out to Republic Services and get an answer for you!
