Bear Warning - Peter Lougheed Provincial Park Campgrounds
Effective: July 26, 2025
- Effective Date: July 27, 2025, until further notice.
- Where: Canyon Campground, William Watson Lodge and Campground, Boulton Creek Campground, Lower Lake Campground, Lower Lake Group Campground and Interlakes Campground.
- Why: Multiple grizzly and black bears frequenting the campgrounds.
On June 16, 2025 a black bear accessed and damaged an unoccupied tent at Boulton Creek Campground, which contained food attractants. It is uncertain if the bear received any food reward. A warning has been issued for the other campgrounds in the facility zone because of their proximity to Boulton Creek Campground.
Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:
- Keep all attractants secure from bears including food, garbage, recycling, pet food and any other scented item. Never leave these items unattended.
- Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
- Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for bears and their signs.
- Keep your pet on a leash.
- Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible, and know how to use bear spray.

Bear Closure - Commonwealth Valley & Surrounding Area
Effective: July 15, 2025
- Effective Date: July 15, 2025, until further notice.
- Where: Commonwealth Valley and the surrounding area included on the map.
- Why: Multiple grizzly bears frequenting and feeding in the area.
Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

- Where: Elkwood Comfort Station - Loop C/D
- Why: Loop C/D is closed until further notice due to a mechanical issue. Shower and toilet facilities are still available nearby at the other Elkwood Comfort Station - Loop A/B.

Construction Advisory - Boulton Creek Campground Amphitheatre
Effective: July 2, 2025
- Effective Date: July 2 to August 5, 2025, or until further notice
- Where: Boulton Creek Campground Amphitheatre
- Why: Minor amphitheatre refurbishment is scheduled to occur at Boulton Campground in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park. Construction is anticipated from July 2 to August 5, 2025 (subject to change / weather dependent).
A noise restriction for construction will be in place for the quiet hours of 4pm-10am. Furthermore, no construction will be permitted on weekends, statutory holidays or on Fridays past 2pm.
To facilitate construction activities, heavy equipment will be working on the site. We recognize construction is inconvenient, however it is necessary to uphold public safety and to support construction efficiency. Please ensure you follow all signage posted on-site, do not cross construction barriers and stay away from the active work zone.
