Planning and Managing Green Cities for Human Health and Well-Being - Francesco Ferrini
Greenspaces help cities to reach the minimal threshold for human well-being. We desperately need them in our cities. Many view greenspaces simply as an outlet for recreation and don’t even think about what they can offer to improve citizens’ quality of life. As for the plants to be used in the future green areas, increased emphasis should be placed on selection and/or breeding trees from environmental stress tolerance, such as drought and temperature stress and that won’t compete with the built environment.
The presentation will try to give an overview of what we know about:
- Green areas to mitigate the Urban Heat Island
- Green areas and stormwater management
- A new approach to Urban Forestry
- Plant selection
- Urban forests as a food source
Recent research will also be provided.
