Exclusive film opportunity

This season’s free film series at The Wing on Sunday afternoons is set to continue with an exclusive chance to watch a documentary made for Yorkshire TV in 1985.

Churchill’s Few features unique footage of interviews with Geoffrey Page, the driving force behind the National Memorial to the Few, and Spitfire Pilot Bob Doe, and will be screened on Sunday 17 March at 2pm.

The film follows another successful Sunday afternoon screening on 25 February when The Battle of Britain – September Skies, by Kent filmmaker Phillip Day was shown to an appreciative full house in The Wing at the Capel-le-Ferne home of the Battle of Britain Memorial.

Phillip’s unique work was ‘remixed’ from two other films to create a dramatic tale that told the story of an ambitious Luftwaffe ace and a 19-year-old RAF recruit flying his first Spitfire sortie in the Battle of Britain, and how their fates collided over Kent.

Churchill’s Few is a critically acclaimed documentary that not only gives an insight into the career of Geoffrey Page, a Hurricane pilot who was shot down and badly burned during the Battle of Britain, but also covers the story of Polish RAF pilot Joseph Szlagowski.

The Trust has kindly been given permission to show the film and is expecting a full house, so booking is recommended. There is no charge, but donations to the Trust, a charity that receives no public funding in support of its work, would be welcome.

The Scramble Experience will be open and the Cockpit Café will be available for refreshments until 4.30pm.
