On April 28, the International Society of Automation (ISA)—the leading professional society for automation—celebrated the fourth annual Automation Professionals Day. This celebration was particularly special because it coincided with ISA’s 80th anniversary.

Every year, Automation Professionals Day honors professionals working across all sectors, such as manufacturing, engineering, cybersecurity, supply chain operations and critical infrastructure. It serves as a reminder the automation depends on people.

“Behind every smart factory, every robotic arm and every AI system—are people with ideas, vision and passion,” writes SHARUL A-RASHID Rahul Gupta, senior member of the International Society of Automation, Malaysia. “Let’s celebrate those making automation possible.”

This year, automation professionals like Gupta  were asked to chime in on social media using #IAPD or #AutomationProDay sharing a testimonial about why automation is making the world a better place.
Carlos Mandolesi, who has worked in industrial automation and industrial networks for 25 years and served as the president of ISA in 2023, encouraged everyone to participate. “Let’s lift up our community, celebrate our wins and inspire the next generation of automation legends. . . . Whether you’re an automation engineer, technician, cybersecurity expert, student or mentor, you make a difference.”

Felipe Sabino Costa, senior product manager at Moxa, always knew he wanted to make a difference. “Twenty years ago, when people asked me what I wanted to do with my life, the only thing I knew for sure was that I wanted to help transform the world and leave it better than I found it,” he writes. “I found that purpose through automation, especially by protecting critical infrastructure through #cybersecurity.”

Kristiner Taylor, who is part of Cimcorp’s marketing and communications team, writes that she is proud to help tell the story of how automation is transforming industries like tire manufacturing and fresh food distribution. “Automation isn’t replacing people,” she writes. “It’s empowering them to do more. By handling repetitive tasks, automation makes the world safer, more efficient and more meaningful.”
