Key Takeaways

  • Major UX Overhaul: Rootstock’s Spring ‘25 release brings a significant user experience (UX) refresh. These updates enhance clarity, efficiency, and ease of use through features like tabbed navigation, collapsible panels, and smart layouts.

  • AI-Powered Order Intelligence with AIRS: The integration of Rootstock’s AIRS engine into order and entry screens enables intelligent product recommendations based on customer history. This helps sales teams anticipate needs and build orders faster.

  • 360-Degree Business Visibility: New consolidated pages provide users with a full view of customer interactions, financials, and operations in a single screen, reducing cross-navigation and boosting situational awareness.

  • Enhanced Financial and Manufacturing Functionality: Features like the PO/AP Match Workbench 2.0 and improved distribution planning (supporting alternate items) streamline operations and increase flexibility.

  • Deeper Integration with Salesforce Ecosystem: Built natively on the Salesforce Platform, Rootstock leverages Salesforce AI tools (Einstein and Agentforce) while offering seamless real-time data visibility across CRM and field service functions.

  • Branding and Market Presence Still a Challenge: Despite these advancements, Rootstock struggles with limited brand recognition and must compete with better-known ERP vendors like NetSuite and Microsoft Dynamics.

Founded in 2008 and natively built on the Salesforce Platform, Rootstock offers a modern cloud enterprise resource planning (ERP) software solution with a crisp user experience (UX). The solution was devised to challenge the legacy ERP establishment by being purpose-built to bring demand, supply, and capacity data and capabilities together for product companies. Several hundred companies in project/industrial manufacturing, wholesale distribution, medical devices, and consumer, cannabis, and technology products appreciate Rootstock’s focus on providing artificial intelligence (AI)-ready decisioning capabilities with a human-first approach.

These companies often hold a global presence and multiple divisions and subsidiaries requiring scalability. For their part, IT teams particularly value Rootstock’s platform (see figure 1), as it minimizes the need to coordinate complex customizations and third-party integrations. Most manufacturers see gaps between demand/customer relationship management (CRM) downstream info and upstream supply info. To bridge such gaps, what Rootstock calls the “signal chain” brings demand and supply chain together in a purpose-built ERP platform designed for the current shifts in manufacturing. Think of trends like continuous monetization of both products and related services, dynamic responsiveness, mass personalization, and more.

Rootstock’s Spring ’25 Release with UX Uplift

Recently, the company announced its Spring ‘25 release, a major milestone that includes a sweeping UX uplift built for speed and simplicity and a host of functional and AI-driven enhancements. Together, these updates are designed to help manufacturers boost productivity and respond quickly in today’s fast-paced market.

The new release introduces the first wave of Rootstock’s UX revamp initiative, one rolling out across 200 Salesforce Lightning record pages. Lightning offers a more modern, user-friendly experience with improved performance, mobile support, and enhanced customization options compared to the traditional Salesforce Classic UX.

The updated experience will be introduced in phases throughout the year and across various modules. This UX redesign focuses on four key areas: clarity, efficiency, consistency, and beauty (see figure 2). Think of cleaner layouts with improved field grouping, tabbed navigation for quicker access to related information, direct form editing to reduce context switching, context-appropriate buttons and simplified screen flows, smart metrics, and more relevant, actionable page content.

These enhancements enable faster data entry, minimize clicks and screen transitions, and introduce smart layouts that adapt to the task at hand—resulting in measurable productivity gains across key business processes. By standardizing layouts and reducing visual clutter, the new UX also aims to shorten user training times.

New 360-degree pages offer complete visibility in a single view to reduce the need for cross-navigation and provide a holistic look at the business, including key relationships. With various redesigned master pages, users will be able to view everything from contacts and orders to pricing, credits, and invoices—all in one consolidated page (see figure 3). Tabbed layouts surface the most relevant information, while collapsible panels provide access to additional details without overwhelming the user.

More AI that MatteRS

Rootstock continues to leverage AI to increase automation and efficiency. In this release, Rootstock’s AI engine, AIRS – unveiled last year – is now embedded into Quick Entry and Quick Order screens. By analyzing customer history and common buying patterns, AIRS intelligently recommends products on order lines, enabling sales teams to anticipate a customer’s needs and build orders with greater speed and accuracy (see figure 4).

Additionally, any notes added to purchase requisitions will automatically carry forward to purchase order (PO) lines, enhancing procurement traceability. Figure 5 shows other AI initiatives and capabilities within Rootstock ERP. As a matter of course, AIRS leverages both Einstein and Agentforce capabilities by Salesforce.

Some Functional Enhancements

This Spring ‘25 release’s financial enhancements focus on greater flexibility and automation, most notably with the PO/AP Match Workbench 2.0 feature (see figure 6). This new workbench replaces the legacy purchase order/accounts payable (PO/AP) matching interface with a redesigned experience and increased efficiency.

Now, users can save custom report filters in Rootstock Financial Analytics (RFA). This enhancement came in response to a customer suggestion submitted through the Rootstock Idea Factory. Users can also suppress posting to future periods, which gives finance teams more control over the timing of their transactions posting. Additionally, Rootstock has moved to the International Components for Unicode (ICU) formats for dates, times, currencies, addresses, names, and numeric values. This move ensures better localization support and formatting consistency for international users.

As for manufacturing operations enhancements, distribution requirements planning (DRP) supports alternate items, allowing manufacturers to adapt more easily to supply chain changes. Rootstock now provides real-time inventory visibility within Salesforce field service workflows, enabling field technicians and dispatch teams to access the most up-to-date information. By closing a gap in inventory tracking from the field, this integration aims to help teams act with greater confidence and precision—streamlining service workflows, ensuring accurate fulfillment, and reducing delays.

Ultimately, this release lays the foundation for a smarter, more agile ERP UX, with embedded intelligence and touchless capabilities on the horizon. Rootstock seems to be making the right moves in becoming a formidable competitor to NetSuite, Acumatica, Epicor, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, Infor, and other established mid-market ERP players. Given that many manufacturers are now open to relying on Salesforce’s stack, Rootstock may have some compelling paved alleys to follow.

On a down note, Rootstock still seems to lack brand recognition and mindshare. Indeed, most of the above competitors create much more marketing buzz and interest due to their vast install bases, with some holding tens of thousands of customers. Rootstock cannot piggyback on Salesforce’s name recognition, which doesn’t carry as much weight in the ERP realm regardless, but with more smart product enhancements, customer wins, and marketing efforts, the vendor could bolster its status down the track.
