The Futures Scholarship aims to increase opportunities for those seeking a career in aerospace and aviation, by providing financial support to both individuals and teams.

These opportunities could be in the form of the following:

  • A paid internship.

  • Work experience opportunity.

  • A unique training course or programme to upskill your knowledge and competence.

  • A PhD project that contributes to the growth and development of the Aviation, Aerospace and Space sector.

  • A team award for groups making a difference to promote Aviation, Aerospace, Space and STEM to the next generation.

Award Categories

Individual Awards

Suitable for those applicants looking to enter an aerospace or aviation discipline but who may require financial support to participate in their specialist programme.

Team Awards

Suitable for organisations or groups actively engaged in inspiring and/or supporting the next generation through STEM outreach and promoting aviation, aerospace or space in order to increase awareness of the potential career paths in the industry.

Named Awards

Individual Applicants may be eligible to receive one of our ‘named awards’ which exist to award personnel who are are making developments in specific areas of the industry. Named Awards are specific awards provided by the RAeS for applicants who are undertaking project/research in specific areas of the Aerospace field. THE ROBERT BLACKBURN AWARD – aimed at those studying aeronautical engineering to an exceptionally high academic standard and preferably at a university in the North of England. THE GP OLLEY AWARD – aimed at those studying in the field of aviation medicine. THE ALAN SNUDDEN AWARD – targeted at those studying in air transport and aircraft maintenance engineering and related fields such as safety, human factors and airworthiness.

What is the purpose of the Futures Scholarship?

  • To enable an individual looking to conduct an activity to increase their employability in the aviation, aerospace and space sector but who is demonstrably constrained by financial circumstances.

  • To provide essential funding to meet a need or a project.

  • To increase diversity in the aerospace sector.

  • Supporting excellence and the prospect of a worthwhile result.

  • Supporting the future of aerospace.
