For those hoping a favorite decorating style from their childhood will return, you may be in luck. With the housing market on the rise, an interesting new trend in real estate has emerged.

Over the past several years more and more buyers are seeking "time capsule" homes, specifically those built in the mid 20th century. These homes maintain original features and décor from their time period—usually housing interiors in pristine condition—and act as a tribute to the past.

"The mid-century home reminds me of bell bottoms. If you wait long enough, they will be back in style,"Jeffrey Hogue, owner of Weichert Realtors Neighborhood One, told CNN.

So what's the allure of these untouched homes from the past? Nostalgia's to blame. Like slipping back into a favorite pair of jeans from high school, the average buyer (40 to 50-years-old) finds it transports them back to their youth.

However, it's not just the décor drawing buyers to this niche. Wood timbers, natural hardwood floors, full brick exteriors—products made to last—serve as an ode to old-fashioned living.

Built in 1980, this 5 bedroom, 5,470-square-foot townhouse in Shorewood, Minnesota is the perfect example of a time capsule home. With lime and orange carpets spread throughout the interior and equally vivid patterns on the walls and furniture this home is the epitome of rad 80's style.
