Someone Hosted a “Bill Murray Ice Cream Social”. . . And He Actually Showed Up

Bill Murray, the Where’s Waldo of entertainers, has shown up in another unlikely place: an ice cream social hosted in his honor by a complete stranger. The event was thrown by a resourceful L.A. citizen named Joe who is both a major Bill Murray fan and, conveniently, the owner of CVT Soft Serve which, according to its Web site, prides itself on bringing authentic East Coast soft-serve to the West Coast’s froyo wasteland.

Joe explained to Gawker how the social came about:

Hi Gawker...My name is Joe, and I'm the guy standing next to Bill. I own an ice cream business in Los Angeles and I heard through the grapevine that Bill Murray was shooting a movie in my neighborhood last night. I decided to throw a "Bill Murray Ice Cream Social" near set with the hope that he'd show up. How often do you get to meet your idol? I invited the entire neighborhood and the cast and crew of the film for free ice cream. Long story short, the guest of honor made it to the party and the rest is history. Like my dad always says "You'll never dance with the pretty girl unless you ask." If you want to look us up when you're in LA we're @CVTSoftServe on the Twitter, the Facebook and the Instagram.

If only both Bills had waited a few days for their ice cream social, they could have known exactly what kind of rosé to pair with their cones. For more photos, check out CVT’s Instagram feed.
