Jorge Ramos's Powerful Defense Of Immigrant Children In Border Crisis

Jorge Ramos's Powerful Defense Of Immigrant Children

Jorge Ramos delivered a powerful speech on Tuesday against conservative efforts to deport the thousands of Central American children who have been arriving at the US border.

Ramos hit back at GOP voices like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) who are pushing for a speedier deportation process of the some 70,000 unaccompanied minors. Many conservative groups have fought back against possible efforts by the Obama administration to house the children in Vassar, Michigan. Despite disagreement over a solution, the border conflict has been called a "humanitarian crisis" by both Republicans and Democrats.

"Deporting kids won't solve anything," Ramos said on Tuesday. "That's not the American way."

The Latino journalist has long been a strong supporter of immigration reform and has not shied away from making his criticisms known. In May, Ramos challenged House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) head on during a weekly press conference, accusing him of "blocking immigration reform."

Ramos continued his critique of Speaker Boehner on Tuesday, adding that "the only long term plan that will work is immigration reform."

"What do we do?" he asked. "First, we treat children like children, as if they were our own. We protect them and put politics aside. No government should be in the business of deporting children. This is America."

The commentary will air on a special edition of "AMERICA" on Tuesday at 10 PM EST.
