I don't know if this news proves we live the in the best of all possible nerd worlds or the end times, but I know it proves something: Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's Gary Sanchez Productions will turn the 1983 barely-cult non-hit TV show Manimal into a movie.

Manimal, for the many, many, many of you unfamiliar with it, is about a man who can turn into any animal and uses this power to fight crime. It was canceled after eight episodes. Please watch the original opening credits introduce its protagonist, Dr. Jonathan Chase ("master of the secrets that divide man from animal, animal from man — Manimal!"), and see how seriously this show took itself:

It's safe to say that Ferrell and McKay's Manimal won't be quite so earnest, although Deadline says original series co-creator Glen A. Larson will help co-produce it. In even better news, Key & Peele executive producers Jay Martel and Ian Roberts will write the script, which is an extremely promising sign.

But who will play Crane? Who could bring the necessary gravitas to believably turn from a man into a panther? I welcome your suggestions in the comments.
