MONTREAL – There is a new Canadian golfer hoping to produce some big results in front of his home crowd.
Beon Yeong Lee is making his Montreal debut at the RBC Canadian Open.
The South Korea native has been living in Montreal for eight years.
This is his second time competing at the Canadian Open. He first qualified in 2010.
“Playing in front of a home crowd is something special,” said Lee after a practice round Tuesday afternoon.
“Looking really forward to it.”
Lee has never won a PGA Tour event but he has a top ten finish this year on the PGA Tour Canada.
The public attention has been increasing recently and will likely grow in the years ahead.
Shaw Communications, the parent company of Global News, announced that Lee had become a Shaw Golf Ambassador along with three other rising Canadian players.

The 25-year-old is keeping a laser like focus, hoping to performing well at the Canadian Open.
Lee is happy the tournament is taking place at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Ile Bizard, the first time the Canadian Open has played here since 2001.
He says the key for him is long straight drives.
“Every tournament, my goal is to win. That’s the only thing I have in my mind,” he said.
