Easing the pain of drought in Ethiopia

Thursday, May 26, 2016

Ethiopia is facing its worst drought in decades, with over 10.2 million people in need of food aid due to El Niño. The failure of rains that normally feed 80 to 85 per cent of the country between June and September has left livelihoods devastated and greatly increased malnutrition rates across the country. An estimated 435,000 children are in need of treatment for severe acute malnutrition (SAM), and more than 1.7 million children, pregnant women and lactating women are in need of supplementary feeding.
