For me one of the best things about the recent Premios Juventud was to see that Puerto Rican veteran DJ Amos Morales was nominated for “Locutor del Año.

Amos Morales has been in radio for about 30 years, most of them (since 1978) as part of KQ-105, a radio station with a mixed programing, not focused to any one genre, although strong on pop and ballads. KQ-105 was part of the Puerto Rico Telemundo media company, which had one of the 1st TV channels in the island. With Telemundo gone, Univision is the new station owner.

Since Univision is the station owner, it explains the visibility Amos Morales is getting. Amos continues to dominate his radio space time, leading in the ratings for his time slot. Amos has stayed relevant in the Puerto Rico radio scene.

A Positive Voice in Puerto Rico Radio

Amos Morales has been in Univision KQ-105 since it began in 1978, and still maintains the top spot for audience in his programing slot.

Amos Morales has also gone through a reinvention. He converted himself to devoted Christian and has motivational sniplets that encourage people to improve as persons. This is super important now a days in Puerto Rico, where the “explicit” content poisons the minds of young people, and the basic courtesy behavior in society is disappearing incredibly rapidly in the island.Radio talk shows in Puerto Rico are mostly trash. Having Amos’ positive voice in the radio is encouraging.

Any person that remains at the top of his game for 30 years deserves recognition. Amos Morales didn’t win the award for “Locutor del Año”, but the fact that he was nominated is a sort of recognition. Also, keep in mind these are Premios Juventud, where the younger people do most of the voting. So for a veteran DJ to have been nominated in Premios Juventud says a lot about his work.

God bless him, and let him continue to spread his positive messages to the Puerto Rican society for many more years.
