The National Endowment for the Arts is set to fund an effort aimed at equalizing access to the arts in the North Limestone area of town.
The NEA funds – known as an “Our Town” grant – will go toward the development of a North Limestone Cultural Plan. The goal is to bring together community members to develop and implement strategies for improving access to public art.
"Out Town is basically focused on creative placemaking... a type of community development that's the strategic highlighting of the feeling of place of a community, the feeling of belonging, and tying that to the creativity in that community," says Richard Young with the North Limestone Community Development Corp.
The plan is to catalog the corridor’s arts and cultural assets, determine ways to expand access to them, and identify new projects.
The $75,000 grant will also help fund a pair of public art projects in the North Limestone neighborhood, including a project with Kentucky American Water and the S.L. Gimbel Foundation for the water retention tank on York Street.
