SuperBite Unleashes Happy Hour With Double Stack Cheeseburgers

Fans of renowned Ox who haven’t visited its sister restaurant, SuperBite, and its accompanying bar, Kask, have yet another excuse: Many of its namesake “superbites” — small mouthfuls loaded with concentrated flavors — are available for $2 each, during a new daily happy hour. SuperBite did not previously have any happy hour. It now runs daily, from 5 to 6 p.m. in the bar area, with “limited availability in the dining room,” according to the news release. Kask serves the same SuperBite happy hour menu next door, plus drink specials daily, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Along with $6 glasses of wine (including a sparkling option) and a number of happy hour small plates and entrees, like Nashville-style hot fried cauliflower, with cucumber ranch and “Grandma Agnes Pickles” ($5), there’s a double stack cheeseburger. It has the familiar double-patty format, but SuperBite features two four-ounce patties made with a mix of beef shoulder from Painted Hills and shiitake mushrooms.

“We do this for a couple of reasons,” writes Gabi Quinonez Denton, who owns SuperBite with co-chef Greg Denton, in an email to Eater. “First, we like the flavor, texture, and the umami quality that the mushrooms provide without overpowering the beef. We grind the two together in-house, so the mushroom hydrates with the meat's juices, blending the two complementary flavors. We love serving two thin patties instead of one thick one, so the burgers will be fairly cooked through, but because of the mushrooms, they will stay very moist and tender. So not only is the burger delicious, but it's also healthier and a little more environmentally sound.”

During happy hour, that burgers comes topped with cheddar, fontina cheese, fancy sauce, “Grandma Agnes Pickles,” and onion on a sesame-seed bun for $10.

Along with the new happy hour, SuperBite expands its hours to 7 days a week. It recently unveiled reservations for parties of all sizes, as well.
