Police surrounded a house in Kensington in a standoff early Saturday morning, only to learn later that the man they were looking for was not inside.
A 22-year-old man was robbed around 3:35 a.m. as he stood on the sidewalk of the 1800 block of Thayer Street, police said. The man told police a man had pointed a gray handgun at him, taken his cell phone and house key, then run off.
Officers searching the area saw a man hiding behind a car on the 3400 block of Emerald Street, just a few blocks away. That man ran inside a house on the block, according to preliminary police information.
Police secured the house and declared it a barricade situation when no one answered from inside.
Half an hour later, officers brought out a man who was not the robber. The robber was not found inside the home.
Police say the robber is a black man, approximately 6 feet tall, with a beard and wearing a black hoodie and black pants.
