Weekend forecast: heat and powerful waves
A high-pressure system is expected to push daytime highs to 80 degrees or more in San Diego on Friday and Saturday — heat that will coincide with strong surf and dangerous rip currents along the coast.
Temperatures should rise even higher inland, approaching 90 degrees in Ramona and Escondido, the National Weather Service said.
Forecasters believe the heat will drive people to the coast, where they’ll find 4-foot to 6-foot waves, with occasionally larger sets, on Friday and Saturday. The west-northwest swell will also produce rip currents through Sunday.
Ocean temperatures: 58 to 62 degrees.
