Access Windows 8's Advanced Startup Utility with a Simple Shortcut

Windows 8 comes with a handy tool for troubleshooting your computer: the Advanced Startup tool. Accessing it can be kind of roundabout, though, so Tech Support Alert shows how to access it quickly and easily.

The Advanced Startup tool is an extra, hidden option of the Shutdown service that allows you to perform basic troubleshooting functions during startup, including doing a "Refresh my PC", reverting to a previous restore point, or other basic tasks. It's also pretty well hidden.

If you only want to access the advanced setup utility once, you can enter the following command into any command prompt:

shutdown.exe /r /o /f /t 00

This will restart your PC into the Advanced Startup mode and you can click "Troubleshooting" from there. Alternatively, you can make this easy to access in the future by right-clicking your desktop, creating a new shortcut, and pasting the above command in the "Type the location of the item" field.
