Last week in Chula Vista, California, 48-year-old Brad Barton became the oldest runner to break 4:20 in the mile, running 4:17.54 at Olympian High School.

The father of five from Utah was aiming to break the world age-group record of 4:16.09 notched by then 46-year-old Tony Young in 2008, according to the Times of San Diego

“I knew I was going to be close, so I did everything I could to the finish,” Barton told the Times. “And from there I don’t really remember a lot.”

Barton currently owns the world indoor mile record for the 45-49 age group with a time of 4:16.84.
