Extell unveils sky-high rooftop pool atop its Downtown Brooklyn skyscraper

Leave it to Extell to bring a bit of drama to Downtown Brooklyn with its first project in the borough.

The New York Post reports that the developer’s skyscraper at 138 Willoughby Street, dubbed Brooklyn Point, is due to have what it says will be the highest rooftop pool in the city—nay, the Western Hemisphere. Extell confirms that it’ll be a 27-foot-long saltwater infinity pool with landscaping, and will feature lounge chairs and space for dining alfresco.

And that’s not all! The Post also reports that “the pool deck will come with its own stargazing observatory, and there will be open-air movie screenings.” (Because what else do you do with the only 700-foot-tall building on the Brooklyn skyline?) The whole shebang will be perched 680 feet above Downtown Brooklyn, and will be designed by Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects.

The teaser site for the building, which is part of the larger City Point project, now lists more of its high-end amenities—there’ll be 40,000 square feet of ‘em—including pilates and cycling studios, rock climbing, a pet spa, various lounges, a “forest adventure,” stroller valet, a game lounge, and more.

As we previously reported, the building will have 458 apartments that will “range from studios to three-bedrooms, and prices will, predictably, be high; units will go from $840,000 to more than $4 million.” The tower is designed by KPF, with Katherine Newman Design working on the interiors.

Construction is already underway, and it’s all expected to be completed by 2020.
