RFL pays tribute to Kevin Beardmore

The RFL sends its condolences to the family and friends of Kevin Beardmore, who has died at the age of 62.

Beardmore gave outstanding service to Castleford Tigers, making almost 250 senior appearances for the club, including in their famous 1986 Challenge Cup Final win against Hull KR at Wembley.

A tough and skilful hooker, Kevin made the majority of those appearances alongside his twin brother Bob at scrum half.

His quality was recognised through 14 Great Britain appearances, and after impressing on the 1984 Lions tour he was signed for a short stint with Canberra Raiders.

Ralph Rimmer, the RFL Chief Executive, said: “This is such sad news, and I’m sure all in Rugby League will join me in sending our condolences to Bob and Kevin’s family, to his friends, and to his former Castleford and Great Britain team-mates. He was a much-admired player who left a lasting impression at Castleford in particular but also on the sport as a whole.”
