Eternity: A Sweet Romance Novel (The Friendship Series, Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 612 ratings

Note from the Author: Christians are not immune to the world’s pressures, and sometimes we go to church without the Good News penetrating into our “real lives.” We get swayed by messages—overt and covert—about who we are and who we should be. We think that God does not speak to these concerns other than to say, “Do this” or “Don’t do that.” It is only when we look beneath the nice words spoken so eloquently from the pulpit that we realize God gave us the guidelines because they are so very practical. They keep us, if we let them, from stumbling into heartbreaking situations. The two stories in The Friendship Series aim to take the reader on a journey with Christians who in the beginning don’t seem to let their Christianity inform their encounters with the world to Christians who realize that God showed us His Way because it works—not just in theory but in real, actual, everyday life.

Aaron Foster thought he had the perfect life until his fiancee walked out of their apartment and then back in again with his new roommate. In desperation Aaron and his best friend, Harmony Jordan, devise The Plan to save Drew's heart from getting shattered, but when The Plan succeeds beyond their wildest expectation, it could spell heartache for them all.

Harmony Jordan has loved Aaron Foster since the first minute he rescued her from a literal computer crash. The only problem is, Aaron only sees her as a friend. Trying to be content to be the person Aaron goes to when life crashes around him, Harmony puts her heart on the line for him to help him rescue his in-for-real-trouble new roommate. However, she never expected the roommate to fall for her, or for her to fall for him. Now what?

“Eternity,” a gem among Contemporary Romance novels, proves romances can be melded with inspirational books to produce something truly amazing and unexpected. Delving into and through the subject most contemporary romance books are predicated upon—free and easy sex, “Eternity” shows that romance novels don’t have to have characters hopping into bed to be romantic, fun, and entertaining. Further, it seeks to dispel the myth that all romantic relationships must start and end in the bedroom. As romance books go, it has all the romance in a clean, inspirational read that any lover of romance novels will appreciate.

*~ Excerpt ~*

Aaron was trapped. When he turned and leaned on the door, his gaze fell to the phone. In a flash he had it in his hand, and in less than a second the other end was ringing.

“Hello?” Harmony's voice drifted over the lines.

“It’s her,” he said in utter desperation.

“Aaron?”

“They’re downstairs.”

“Right now?”

“On my couch. They are making out on my couch!”

“Oh, no.”

“Could you give me something a little more than oh, no?”

“Crud.”

“Yeah, that’s closer. Oh, man. What am I going to do?”

“Are you sure it’s her?”

“Harmony.”

“Okay. Of course you’re sure. Okay. Okay. Let me think. Where are you?”

“In my room.”

“Do they know you’re home?”

“No. I don’t know. I don’t think so.”

Her side went silent for a moment. “The fire escape’s on your window isn’t it?”

He looked at the window in trepidation. “Yeah, but it’s only for emergencies.”

“Hello!”

The plan was looking better and better all the time. “But where am I supposed to go? It’s 12:30 in the morning!”

Without more than a second’s pause, her voice softened. “You could come over here.”

That stopped him. In all the time he had known her, he had never been to her place, not even once. “Your place? Are you sure?”

“You’re in trouble,” she said as if stating the case for a jury. “When a friend’s in trouble, you do whatever you have to to help them out.”

“Even this?”

She didn’t say anything for a long moment. “I think I’ll live.” Quickly she gave him the directions.

He smiled, momentarily forgetting the disaster downstairs as he wrote them down. “I’ll be there in ten minutes.”

My second fav from Staci. A good Christian romance. Harmony and Aaron work together. Harmony has been in love with Aaron who only sees her as a friend. After Drew's fiance dumps him and moves out of his apartment, he needs a new roommate who Harmony helps him find. Drew. Aaron and Drew get along great, become good friends as well as roommates but then Drew meets and falls for Aaron's ex and Aaron is worried Drew will get hurt like he did and so, hatches a plan involving Harmony. It works, a little too well,. Predictable, well, mostly but still a sweet read.

I also like how Harmony's view point is told, she does date much, partially because she she doesn't believe in getting into the physical part of a relationship until there is some commitment. Not a popular POVin today's world. But this is a clean Christian romance. Harmony is not preachy about it but some who disagree may want to avoid this book. I have seen many reviews where the reader takes offence.

What a wonderful love story.

Aaron Foster thought his life was picture perfect until his fiancee walked out of their apartment and out of his life. He was left brokenhearted and devastated. Unfortunately she walked right back in again but this time it was with his new roommate, Drew, who knew nothing of Aaron's past involvement with her.

Harmony Jordan has been Aaron's best friend for four years. Neither of them want to see Drew's heart shattered like Aaron's was so they devise a plan to split the two up for Drew's protection. Well, the plan succeeds much better than Aaron ever anticipated and it backfires right in his face, devastating him once again.

I adored this story. The only reason I did not think it was 5-star worthy is my personal dislike of weak female characters, or at least the ones who appear weak to me. Harmony had many hangups and I am not sure she really put forth the effort to overcome them or work through them. She spent too much time with a 'poor me' attitude and a good dose of self-pity. She put herself down throughout the book and that was troublesome to me and I think she made herself appear very insecure in front of others. She was always down on herself, her looks, her clothing, her shoes, her hair, her everything and that, to me, is unappealing, especially to a man. She was her own worst enemy. The thing is no one saw her as she saw herself but she refused to believe what they saw even when she was complimented and praised. I know that happens in real life, as well, but she did not wear this well. After hearing this for most of the book it left me feeling that she did not deserve the guy/guys although I wanted them to have their HEA. If the female had been a bit stronger with a small amount of self confidence, it would have been a five.

They've been co-workers for five years. During that time, Harmony has listened to Aaron's complaints, given advice and loved him from afar. Now Aaron is looking for a roommate and she sends someone his way. Only within a few days the guy is dating Aaron's old fiancé and they make a plan to break the happy couple up. Suddenly she finds herself falling for Drew. She's always been worried about getting the guy to like her enough to stick around but they always leave. When she finally is convinced that Drew does love her and will stick around, Aaron decides to let her know he has feelings for her. Things are a little screwed up for a while but eventually the stories get ironed out and the feelings get pushed in the right direction.

When I see the words "Inspirational" I think that this book will have some kind of Christian aspect.

This book was not morally offensive in that all of the sleeping around was done behind the scenes, but still it was done. The one girl who does say that she wants to "wait" was doing it more because of what happened to her sister as opposed to her personal convictions and faith which was never really portrayed other than the occasional "we need to pray...."

Story was pretty bland--several times you wanted to take the characters and shake them and say "Grow up!" (spoiler alert) and as for the whole episode of being fired from a govt. office because you are not allowed to date others within that office, well let's just say that that doesn't make sense at all.

Sorry--wish I could recommend it more.

Eternity..I'm a sucker for a good romance and this was also a lovely God-centered book...I believe there will be a sequel and I can't wait to see what happens with the next. The heroine was disabled, but a successful writer; the hero was a knight in shining armor coming to her rescue and a godly man...Wow....Add to the mixture wealth, wedding, an unscrupulous bridegroom known only by that moniker by the heroine and the plot becomes almost too tense for the book...but wait! There's always Book #2...Did I forget to add that there is a whale of a lot of humor? Irreverent humor no less...Wow! It was a good read...and fast. I confess, with the good ones, I'm finished in less than a day. This was a good one

2.0 out of 5 stars Why do they think shrimp pasta is weird?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 28, 2014
Why do they think shrimp pasta is weird? It's set in Atlanta, not exactly the backwoods. Have they never been to an Italian restaurant? Or watched a cooking show?
What exactly is inspirational about the romance? Is it that the main character doesn't drink or have sex? Sure it's nice to have a heroine that does not conform to society's expectations and may be more acceptable in more conservative circles, but it's not like has an inspirational reason for it - she's more driven by fear and guilt.
I downloaded the book looking forward to being inspired but was met with a bog-standard romance.
On the plus side I did like the characters, even if they didn't always act in a way that made emotional sense.
Perhaps it was a mismatch of expectations. It was a perfectly nice story even if it did stretch my credulity at times, but I hoped for so much more!

4.0 out of 5 stars good book

I enjoyed this book for me, despite being a bit disappointed that it was not more 'Christian' (was there any mention of Jesus or Christians at all?). However, I would hesitate to recommend it to teen readers because of the way in which sex outside marriage was just assumed by all but Harmony, and even she didn't seem to have any reason for abstaining except for what happened to her sister. It was a good book, and completely clean, but could have been great by just talking a bit about the real reasons Christians do have for keeping sex for inside marriage.
