OUR TAKE: The Wall Street Journal broke the news Thursday that Apple plans to enter the original content game. Citing unnamed sources, the paper reports that the content would be part of Apple’s $10 a month streaming music service. This could give Spotify users reason to reconsider their streaming music choice. At least that’s what Apple hopes. Of course, that will all depend on the content’s quality and demand. Netflix and to a lesser extent Amazon Video have built up a stable of originals that regularly receive critical (and award) praise. Apple is reportedly hoping to have scripted fare to offer up by the end of 2017. For traditional programmers, it’s one more competitor for content. HBO was shut out of Golden Globe wins on Sunday, despite being the network with the most nominations.
