Thed Björk has “no regrets” after Macau qualifying

Championship leader Thed Björk saw his lead shrink by two points down to 14.5, but the Polestar Cyan Racing driver is still very happy with his maiden outing in Macau as he finished qualifying in fourth.

“Like I said yesterday I was working hard on myself and learning all the time,” said the Volvo driver to TouringCarTimes. “This is where it put me and I’m really happy. The team gave me a great car and I had the confidence to push, it’s my first time here in a high-level championship and to finish fourth makes me really happy.”

Björk does not feel he will need to be extra careful during the races, as he will keep his focus on his own performances and pace and take it from there rather than planning a precise strategy.

“I think Norbi [Michelisz] will also have to be careful, because he is hunting me. I’m going to keep focussing on myself, also because it’s really hard to overtake here. I’ll just see what happens and take it from there, it’s a track where I can’t think about what the others do.”

The Volvo driver feels he got the maximum out of his S60 today.

“I feel I extracted the maximum out of the car, which was well-balanced, so I have no regrets. For me it feels good, obviously I didn’t get pole, but again I was not expecting to be fastest around here. I managed to push myself in the correct way.”

Björk is amazed at the way the track has changed from the first free practice session to qualifying, as the improvements in grip helped his confidence.

“This was a completely new track in terms of grip. I remember thinking ‘How can I go six seconds faster?’. I thought it was crazy, but today I managed to go five seconds quicker than yesterday’s time, and it was a great feeling. I know I will have to keep pushing until the last corner on the last lap in Qatar.”
