22-year-old UBC student dies in fall onto seawall in Stanley Park

VANCOUVER – A 22-year-old UBC student from Abbotsford has died after a fall onto the seawall in Stanley Park.

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed that David Huynh was spending time with friends at Prospect Point in the late afternoon on July 26 when his friends noticed he was missing.

Just after 6 p.m. he was found on the seawall, about 70 metres below.

Huynh was deceased at the scene.

Police are not releasing any details at this time on how Huynh fell to his death or what exactly happened, but they are treating it as an accident.

A student at UBC’s Sauder School of Business, Huynh was an active member of the Commerce Undergraduate Society, which put out a release upon word of his death.

“We cannot express David’s character any better than has been by those who are today remembering him for the incredible young man he was—optimistic, outgoing, enthusiastic, generous, and above all kind-hearted,” it read.

Huynh was interning at HSBC for the summer.

His family posted a message on his Facebook wall today, thanking people for their support.

“We would like to thank you for your love, compassion and kind words,” they wrote.

“It is extremely comforting to know that the son, brother, nephew, boyfriend, and friend that we love so so much is equally loved, appreciated and respected by so many. His humble spirit was felt by so many and his legacy will forever live on. His presence will never be forgotten and he will be greatly missed by many.”

The BC Coroners Service and Vancouver Police are still investigating.
