Bouygues is set to win a £105m contract to build a new town hall and civic centre for Tower Hamlets Council in east London.

The project will build the town hall in place of the Royal London Hospital building acquired by the council in 2012.

It will deliver a partial refurbishment of an existing Grade II-listed building as well as new build.

Once complete, the development will provide 26,700 sq m of civic office space.

The council has appointed Bouygues to carry out the preconstruction planning, pricing and programming.

Tower Hamlets added that Bouygues was the preferred contractor to carry out construction work on the scheme.

Construction on the scheme will begin later this year and is due to complete in autumn 2021.

Bouygues UK chair Fabienne Viala said: “We have an excellent relationship with the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, having built a number of schools across the area.

“It is great to be continuing that relationship by creating a new town hall that will provide a high-quality working environment for council staff and improved facilities for the local community.”
